It’s getting cold, but our thriving community is just warming up! This July, our Eliston residents are lucky to have so many amazing activities for the whole family to enjoy throughout the school holidays – the fun just doesn’t stop. 

From the Casey Winter Arts Festival, games nights and markets, to theatre, concerts and Christmas in July celebrations, there is truly something enjoyable for all the family to participate in this month.

Open Studios Weekend

When: Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th July

Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm

Where: Various locations

Cost: Free

For one weekend a year, as part of the Casey Winter Arts Festival, artists across Casey and Cardinia throw open their doors for the popular Open Studios Weekend!    

From Paperworks Gallery in Berwick to Janet Matthews Studio in Narre Warren North, come and get a glimpse behind the scenes of the studios you know and love. Along the tour, you can enjoy the work of local printmakers, painters, ceramicists, photographers and more, plus you even get the opportunity to purchase some of these unique and sustainably made artworks. Some studios are even offering the chance to sign up for an art class with a local artist!

Games Night at Selandra

When: Saturday, 3rd July

Time: 4:00pm – 11:00pm

Where: Selandra Community Hub, 7-9 Selandra Blvd, Clyde North

Cost: Free

Bring on the fun and friendly competition at ‘Here Be Games’ monthly tabletop game night! 

Head over to Selandra Community Hub’s on-site games library for a free night of enjoyable games and fantastic company, where you can learn some new skills, discover new games and win at your favourites in a friendly environment. 

Plan to arrive around dinner time? Why not fire up the BBQ with some new friends or grab something to eat from the local supermarket or take away restaurants nearby?

New, experienced and curious gamers are all invited. Additionally, you can shop for your favourite games at great prices at the ‘Here Be Games’ pop-up shop on the day.

Spike by Little Wing Puppets

When: Monday, 5th July

Time: 10:30am & 12:30pm

Where: Bunjil Place

Cost: $10.00

Treat the kids to an incredible, interactive family experience – Spike By Little Wing Puppets. 

This sensory performance combines shadow puppetry and physical comedy perfectly, as it follows the story of an echidna who is stolen from his nest and hatches far away from home. Spike the echidna is then found by a young girl who is playing in the bush after being bullied and she is unsure what kind of creature he is due to his lack of spikes. As the story unfolds, the young girl helps him on a path to finding his home and subsequently Spike helps her on a road to self-discovery.

Both beautiful and educational, it is perfect for children aged 4 – 10 years old, but a must-see for all!

Wednesday Night Workshop

When: Wednesday, 14th July

Hand-build a Miffy inspired monster with ceramic artist, Vipoo Srivilasa!

Allow Vipoo, an award-winning ceramic artist, to take you on a happy, fun and fast-paced clay class at this Wednesday night’s workshop. This class is perfect for those who want to inspire kids and learn how to create from paper clay. 

Using Vipoo’s techniques, you will go beyond the traditional and learn about hand forming, innovative texturing, slabbing, piercing and clay scissoring techniques. With all of your new skills and taking inspiration from Miffy, you will walk away from this masterclass with your own adorable clay monster.

Bumble Bee Baby and Children’s Market

The Bumble Bee Baby and Children’s Markets have returned! 

If you are a parent, grandparent, carer, or expecting parent, look no further than this incredible market that has been running since 2010. With over 40 stalls, you can expect to snap up some fantastic bargains on quality pre-loved, handmade and new goods, for maternity to primary school ages. The range of products and services is endless, with great popularity for books, clothing, high chairs, prams, nursery items, and activity sets! 

There will be a coffee van on-site as well as a range of service providers highlighting themselves to the local community.

Wednesday Night Workshop – Architecture Photography 

When: Wednesday, 21st July 2021

Time: 7:00pm

Where: Bunjil Place, Boon Wurrung Wurundjeri Meeting Room (Bunjil Place),2 Patrick Northeast Drive, Narre Warren 

Cost: $30.00 

Have you always wanted to learn how to enhance your architectural photography skills? If so, then come along to a night of discovery and learn how to use your smartphone’s camera to take captivating architectural images. 

This workshop, hosted by leading artist and abstract photographer Chris Bowes, is suitable for both Android and iPhone users, and will introduce you to some free apps that give you more control over your smartphone’s camera. 

You’ll learn easy ways to enhance your architectural photos using these editing apps and receive some useful tips to do with composition and creative photography. 

The workshop will also explore the magnificent architecture of Bunjil Place inside and out, looking at how to make amazing images on both a small and grand scale.

Christmas in July with the Voices of Casey

Celebrate Christmas in July with a joyous evening filled with festive food, music and fun! 

The original Voices Of Casey are joined by Artistic Director Jonathon Welch AM, to bring you the Christmas spirit this July. You, your family and friends are encouraged to bring your best voices to the cabaret-style seating to sing along to all your favourite jingles. 

In spirit, there will be a delicious spit roast and dessert, as well as tea and coffee included in your ticket price. After your feast, sit back and enjoy a fantastic performance by the Voices Of Casey.

Enjoy A Day Out At Crystal World

If you thought Crystals would be all to see at the Crystal World Exhibition Centre, then think again! 

One of the world’s largest and most diverse exhibitions, Crystal World’s main focus surrounds the incredible field of geoscience. Proudly on display are a brilliant collection of Fossils, Meteorites, Gems, Minerals and of course, Crystals – which are available for sale. 

Striving for exciting educational experiences, visitors can explore over five acres of land to discover over 400 hundred tons of rough geological and lapidary pieces, as well as tens of thousands of exquisite crystals and minerals. 

This fascinating and free day out is a must to visit with the kids, and the dinosaur display on the lawn is great for all ages as well as a terrific photo opportunity!
