Welcome To August

August 1, 2020 in Community, News, What's on in Clyde

WELCOME TO AUGUST!

As Victorians, we are all being asked to practise social distancing again at present to slow down the spread of the coronavirus again, however that doesn’t mean that we can’t once again make the most of our time at home learning new skills, playing new games, cooking and channelling the inner well-being guru in all of us.

Plus… let’s be honest, rugging up indoors during the peak of Melbourne winter, isn’t really as bad as it seems.

So, we have put together a great list of activities for the whole family to enjoy this month whilst maintaining social distancing.

We love seeing photos of your games and cooking experimentations as well, so please share with us so we can repost on Instagram and Facebook.

We hope you enjoy!

ACTIVITIES FOR THE BIG KIDS

SPRING CLEAN YOUR HOUSE

Now, before you scrunch your nose up at this one, know that August is the official month of spring cleaning and there really is nothing better than tackling that garage, oven, closet and so on, to reveal a gorgeous tidy space underneath.

You can also get the kids involved too, whether it be tidying up play rooms, retiring old toys, cleaning up the leaves in the garden or even trying their hand at a little bit of painting if necessary. You will love how rewarding it feels afterwards.

KEEP ON MOVING

Exercise keeps us feeling great, looking great and most importantly, is essential to a healthy lifestyle. Fortunately, even though we can’t head out to our local gyms at the moment, many fitness studios are offering free workout sessions daily, like our friends at Crunch Fitness.

All you’ll need to do is submit your email address to get access to Crunch Fitness’ workouts for a period of 45 days. We’ve tested this out ourselves and you do not need any credit card information to access some of the site’s free workouts. Once you register, you get access to about 100 or so video workouts. Not a bad deal!

GIVE YOURSELF A MANI / PEDI

You may have learned how to do this during the last lockdown, but if not, giving yourself a bit of pampering always works wonders and often it’s the small things in life that make us feel better, with a fresh manicure being up there.

Take some time for yourself, push your cuticles down, slather on some hand cream and choose a shade that makes you smile from ear to ear. Mummy / daughter mani’s also make for a beautiful bonding moment.

MAKE CHEESE FROM SCRATCH

Calling all cheese lovers! This kit is the ultimate lockdown essential – equipped with a range of herbs and spices, three cheese moulds, and a glorious recipe book.

There are enough ingredients to make a grand total of 40 batches, and the kit has a shelf life of at least 12 months – so it’ll keep you going for ages. Plus, who wouldn’t be impressed with your own freshly made cheese?

INDULGE IN A CHOCOLATE MAKING CLASS

Cheese not your thing? Never fear, why not learn to make chocolate instead?

Jessica Pedemont has over 20 years of experience in the culinary arts.

Her passion and focus is pastry, chocolate and sugar craft and has travelled the world – working, studying and teaching in some of the finest establishments in the industry. Now she has online classes available so you too can learn the mastery behind chocolate making. From truffles and chocolate honeycomb, to delectable cakes and cookies, you will be in seventh heaven after taking one of these classes… and we are guessing the whole family will be happy too.

ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS

MAKE YOUR OWN MINI GOLF COURSE AT HOME

A game of miniature golf is a fun way to spend time with the whole family. When you construct the course at home, you can play anytime!

Whether or not your family members are athletes, they’ll enjoy the challenge of designing and building a mini-golf course. It’s an activity that’s easy for kids and entertaining for all ages. Plus, everyone in your family will love the friendly competition that goes along with a fun game of golf. It’s made even more fun by adding coloured golf balls and clever obstacles sometimes featuring moving pieces to challenge the golfers.

MAKE AN ELF OR FAIRY HOUSE

Do your kids love to play make-believe?

Want to jump into their world?

Build move-in-ready elf and fairy houses as a family. Create little villages of fantasy that will give rise to make-believe quests and missions, leading to a world of wonder right in your very own home.

HAVE A CHALK ART COMPETITION ON THE DRIVEWAY

We know that kids love to draw, and they also love to draw on things they aren’t supposed to, so why not let the kiddies go nuts with a chalk art competition on your driveway.

They can use multiple colours and as it simply washes off with a hose down or on the next rainy day, there is not much cleaning inside or out.  Self-portraits, a car track or hop scotch are also some fun things to add into the chalk driveway fun. Just be ready for dusty cloths and hands. The Eliston community would love to see some of the drawings too, so don’t forget to post and tag us via: @elistonclyde.

We hope that these activities help you and the whole family have an enjoyable month!
