As the weather starts to cool down, the events are heating up in our thriving community, with May on the way to being a very fun filled month. 

From outdoor events such as hikes, farm visits and pet expos, to family fun theatre and markets – there will be something for everyone to enjoy this May.

And, let’s not forget the most important day of the year, being Mother’s Day.

The team at Eliston wish you all a beautiful month and a very happy Mother’s Day to all those special mums out there.

Geoheritage Walking Tour, Wilson Botanic Park 

When: Sunday, 2nd May 2021

Time: 9:45am – 1:30pm 

Where: Visitor Centre, Wilson Botanic Park Berwick, 668 Princes Highway, Berwick, Victoria 3806

Join in on this outdoor adventure at this specially developed 2km guided walking tour of Wilson Botanic Park to discover its geological history and fossils.

Be wowed as you explore over 1000 plant species – both native and exotic, and over 80 species of wildlife including birds, turtles, frogs, lizards and snakes. 

Or, you can simply relax and enjoy free live music at Lakeside as you take in the beauty of this botanical wonderland.

The Midnight Gang  – Live On Stage 

When: Friday, 7th & Saturday, 8th May 2021

Time: 6:30pm (Friday) and 10:30am (Saturday)

Join the Midnight Gang as Tom and his new friends go on a series of amazing adventures as David Walliams’ bestseller comes to life on stage in a celebration of friendship, love and the power of the imagination.

This amazing production will see twelve year old Tom unexpectedly finds himself lonely and lost in the children’s ward of St Crook’s Hospital, away from his family and at the mercy of evil Matron. 

Tom feels like he’ll never leave, but his fellow young patients have other ideas. They might be stuck in hospital, but their imaginations can take them anywhere as The Midnight Gang. Each night when the clock strikes midnight, The Midnight Gang go on a series of amazing journeys as they turn the hospital into the places they’ve always wanted to go and make dreams come true.

History, Hills and Hiking

When: Saturday, 8th May 2021

Time: 9:30am – 3:00pm 

Where: Mt Dandenong Primary School, 13-15 Farndons Road, Mount Dandenong.

Cost: $63.56 or free for members 

Learn all about the magnificent Mt Dandenong on a history, hills and hiking trip! 

Hear about the early pioneers and local buildings on the way to visiting the beautiful Olinda Falls where you will discover a rare creature that lives here. Venture down the slippery slopes through the gully towards the spectacular views up ahead. Travel through the mountain ash up a fire track for a challenge, and then as it eases, expect some mud! 

The trip will be well worth it as you are surrounded by beautiful ferns, background noise of a running creek, some local knowledge of flora and fauna, and views of both the wonderful nature and the city. 

See if you can spot some lyre birds, wombats, king parrots, kookaburras or a flock of rosellas!

Casey Pet Expo 

When: Saturday, 8th May 2021

Time: 11:00am – 2:00pm

Where: Wilson Botanic Park, Berwick. 

Cost: Free 

Grab your furry four-legged friends and head on down to the popular Casey Pet Expo at Wilson Botanic Park! 

The event will also have plenty of food, activities and fun, with pet related stalls, guest presenters, novelties, market stalls, food trucks, entertainment, kids face painting, workshops and live demonstrations all happening on the day. 

It is a great opportunity to help your dogs and other pets socialise, however make sure to bring them on a leash

Fun fact! Did you know that the City of Casey has one of the highest rates of pet registrations (37,000) in Melbourne? 

Join your fellow pet lovers and head down with the family to this fur friendly event.

 

Berwick Farmers Market

Where: The Old Cheese Factory, 34 Homestead Road, Berwick

Berwick Farmers Market is the place to get all your locally grown, fresh produce and value-added goods! 

With a vast range of ready to eat goodies as well as best in the region organic veggies, artisan bread, fresh fruits, preserves and much more on offer, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

National Simultaneous Storytime

When: Wednesday, 19th May 2021 

Time:  11am – 12pm 

Where: The Old Cheese Factory, 34 Homestead Road, Berwick

Join the nation in a storytime… from space!

The National Simultaneous Storytime held by Australian Library and Information Association has been around for 21 years and is a chance for libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country to come together. It promotes the value of reading and literacy in a colourful, vibrant and fun event. 

Each year an Australian written and illustrated children’s picture book is read simultaneously, at the same time. This year it is ‘Give me some Space’ by Philip Bunting.

It’s a great event for the kids to enjoy whilst learning.

Let Dosa Grill do the cooking

Take a Sunday Garden Tour of Cruden Farm

When: Sundays, May, 2021.

Time: 10:00am and 1:00pm

Where: 60 Cranbourne- Frankston Rd, Langwarrin VIC, 3910.

Once a month throughout the year, Cruden Farm is open on a Sunday. Cruden Farm was vacated by Dame Elisabeth Murdoch for the public to enjoy the wondrous manicured gardens, peaceful walking areas, interesting bushland and lakes. 

For this special event, you will be able to stroll around the gardens and farm or take a guided tour of the property. 

Coffee and tea are available to purchase at the Gatehouse, or, you can bring your own picnic or alternatively pre-order some delicious scones or a morning tea picnic box.

Spend The Day Exploring The Big Goose 

When: Daily – Wednesday – Sunday

Just 30 minutes from Eliston Estate lies The Big Goose, a family friendly petting zoo with many surprises! From tiny fluffy chicks to greedy goats and cheeky lambs, the working farm has many animals at all different stages of their life, to meet. 

Whether it is a family day out, a group trip or even a birthday party, you are sure to have fun in both the inside and outside play areas with all the animals.

That’s not all though! Enjoy sheep dog and reptile shows, tractor rides, mini golf, wildlife parks, playgrounds, splash parks and so much more.
